Mass protest against Sunday parking charges

6.06.00pm GMT Tue 9th Dec 2008

Judith and Sam

Sam Payne, Lib Dem County Councillor for Petersfield Butser, and Lib Dem activist Judith Rodgers are among those who have collected 4,700 signatures against Sunday parking charges in Petersfield.

But at the full council meeting last week, Judith Rodgers and others were not allowed to present their petition to the council Chairman. Instead they were told to leave it at the back of the Council Chamber

"This belittles all those who have taken the trouble to sign this petition" said Judith Rodgers. "It is also short-sighted. Charging for Sunday parking not only affects those attending church & visitors bringing extra revenue to the town, but also those living in Petersfield, who suffer congestion & frustration from cars parked in the streets to avoid these charges."

The Lib Dems will coninue to call for Sunday parking charges in Petersfield to be dropped.
