Liz Leffman and Councillor Vivian Achwal take petition to Hampshire County Council

Liz Leffman, Prospective Lib Dem MP for Meon Valley, made a deputation to County Councillors today on behalf of Whiteley residents, presenting a petition signed by over 500 people asking for Yew Tree Drive and Rookery Avenue roads to be opened to all vehicles.

Following her deputation, Councillor Allgood said that Liz's speech had painted Whiteley as "an awful place to live".

In response to this, Liz said: "Cllr Allgood has misquoted me. I like Whiteley. It is a very pleasant village with lots of green space and a strong local community. However, Whiteley people have been let down badly over roads.

"If it were possible for people to get in and out of Whiteley instead of being stuck in traffic, it would be an even better place to live. That's why I made this deputation today.
