The Conservative proposal to cancel Hampshire's Mobile Library stop at the Clanfield Co-op Car Park has been foiled by FOCUS and People Power!
Through our Clanfield and Horndean Focuses, County Cllr Sam Darragh urged people to object to the plan to drop this weekly, 4 hour stop because, as we were told by a Libraries officer, this service was well used by about 60 people borrowing 120 books each week. More importantly, about half of these were children. And, many of these users were Catherington residents.
Now, thanks to the objections, this decision has been reversed and the Library will still stop at the Co-op. However, we think the stopping time will be reduced.
Other Changes
Another change will be the reduction of the fortnightly service at Catherington School to a monthly service. For Lovedean residents, the Eagle Avenue stop will be retained, but all the Horndean stops will be cancelled.
FOCUS Editor Peter Humphreys paid tribute to Sam Darragh for her successful efforts.
Peter said "Cancelling this well used service, which provided an incentive for children to read instead of playing video games, made no sense. Whilst a case can be made for closing down some stops, of low usage, that didn't apply here. We are indebted to Sam for spotting this and starting the campaign against it."
Sam herself wishes to thank all those whoraised their objections and achieved a victory.
