Mark Oaten, MP for Winchester, and Liz Leffman, Prospective MP for Meon Valley, are fighting for West Meon Post Office
Liberal Democrat MP for Winchester, Mark Oaten, and Prospective MP for Meon Valley, Liz Leffman, are renewing their fight to save the local West Meon Post Office branch.
Mark, Liz and the Lib Dem team in Meon Valley have expressed continued concern over the number of Post Office closures in the local area.
Recent proposals from the Post Office suggest that, in place of the West Meon branch, it will operate an 'Outreach' service for only eight hours a week.
Following this, Mark and Liz have encouraged all constituents affected by these closures to get involved in the new consultation process with the Post Office to offer their views on the recent proposals and demand a better Outreach service.
Mark Oaten MP stated:
"I am aware that the repeated closures of Post Office branches inconvenience residents and harm our communities. My constituency has already seen a number of closures or changes to a reduced service and we don't need to see another one.
"My hope is that we can bring about an agreement with the Post Office that is satisfactory to all and can help retain local character."
Liz Leffman added:
"Our main concern is that people in West Meon have a postal service that fits their needs, which is why we are acting to bring this consultation to the attention of people in the village."
NOTES:
Residents can have their say on what type of Outreach service they feel would be necessary for West Meon Post Office by writing to Tim Nickolls (Network Development Manager), FREEPOST CONSULTATION TEAM or by email at consultation@postoffice.co.uk. Comments must be made to the Post Office Consultation Team by JUNE 17.
