Biking bonanza proves a real winner

Liz takes on the role of event steward at the KROWS event

Biking-crazy youngsters enjoyed a fun-filled day of cycling extravagance in Swanmore on Sunday, thanks to a local mum and a teenager.

Mother-of-two Anne Lamerton met 19-year-old James Horn while at the village BMX/skate ramp, where he showed her sons James, nine, and George, six, a variety of bike stunts for them to test out.

Anne urged James and his friends to think of setting up a bike club and present it to village councillors, who backed the idea wholeheartedly, and which resulted in the formation of the KROWS group (Kid Riders of Waltham and Swanmore).

The event, which took place at the ramp in New Road and was entitled The KROWS BMX Biking Bonanza, consisted of demonstrations, training and road safety advice for younger children.

Liz Leffman, Prospective Liberal Democrat MP for Meon Valley, threw her full support behind the idea back in December and was more than happy to offer her help as an event steward for the day.

She said: "This is a great example of what communities can achieve when people work together towards creating something exciting and attractive for young people. Everyone in attendance had a great time and I am very pleased to have been able to give my support and help out at this event."
